Work is currently underway to find a permanent solution to the flooding problem that has affected Puttalam town and surrounding communities for many years.
Under the initiative of the National People’s Power Government, the necessary studies, planning, and further actions are being carried out in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation (SLLDC).
In this regard, an important discussion was held on 04 September 2026 with the participation of Puttalam District Members of Parliament, Mayor Eng. Rinsad Ahamed, local government representatives, and government officials.
A special financial allocation has been made for the studies and planning required for flood control, and SLLDC has been instructed to expedite the work.
Puttalam is moving beyond the problem and towards implementing a solution.
