Trade License

Overview

A Trade Licence is required for eligible business and commercial activities operating within the Puttalam Municipal Council area.

The licence helps regulate business activities and ensure compliance with applicable Municipal Council requirements.

Requirements

Applicants should fulfil the following requirements:

1. Obtain the Public Health Inspector (PHI) Report.
2. Obtain the Revenue Inspector’s recommendation.
3. Ensure that the waste charges for the year have been paid.
4. Ensure that the assessment tax for the year has been paid.
5. Provide the Business Name Registration Certificate.
6. Ensure that the applicable name board display charges have been paid.
7. Provide a copy of the rental agreement when the business operates from rented premises.

How to Apply

1. Obtain the relevant Trade Licence application.
2. Complete the application form.
3. Prepare the required supporting documents.
4. Obtain the relevant PHI Report and Revenue Inspector’s recommendation.
5. Ensure that applicable Municipal Council payments have been made.
6. Submit the completed application and relevant documents to the Miscellaneous Revenue Branch.
7. The application will be processed in accordance with the applicable requirements.

Hotels and Restaurants

For hotels and restaurants operating under the relevant tourism authority arrangements, the official published service information states that the licence may be issued based on 1% according to the previous year’s audit report.

Applicants should confirm the current applicable procedure and fee before submitting the application.
