A special event to welcome Dr. Lasitha Malalasekara, who has assumed duties as the new Medical Superintendent of Puttalam Base Hospital, and to bid a respectful farewell to Dr. Lasantha Liyanage, who served as the Medical Superintendent until now, was successfully held on 01 September 2026 at ICE Talk Family Restaurant, Puttalam, under the leadership of the Puttalam Grand Mosque.
🤝 The event was organized with the participation and collaboration of political and social leaders of the Puttalam community, the Hospital Development Committee, doctors, Ulama, interfaith leaders, intellectuals, representatives of the business community, and community organizations.
The event was attended by key guests and community representatives, including Hon. Mohamed Faizal, Member of Parliament for Puttalam District, and Mayor Eng. Rinsad Ahamed of Puttalam Municipal Council.
💐 The dedicated services of former Medical Superintendent Dr. Lasantha Liyanage to Puttalam Base Hospital and the people of Puttalam were appreciated and honoured. At the same time, Dr. Lasitha Malalasekara, the newly appointed Medical Superintendent, was extended warm wishes and continued support from everyone.
🍽️ At the conclusion of the event, a dinner was also arranged for the invited guests and community representatives.
Strengthening healthcare services for the people of Puttalam requires the medical sector, government institutions, and community organizations to work together with unity and commitment.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Member of Parliament Mohamed Faizal expressed his gratitude to the Mayor, doctors, social activists, and everyone who worked together with him towards upgrading Puttalam Base Hospital.
He also noted that this important task, which had remained unfulfilled for several decades, has been successfully undertaken and completed by the National People’s Power Government.
